COMMUNICATION 101

James T. Woodson, MD, FACEP

September 11, 2019  |  12:00 PM - 12:30 PM CST

We communicate all day, every day, but, as healthcare providers, do you recognize the power you have to impact more patient lives based on your communication skills than any other patient care skill you possess. Positive communication certainly helps, but miscommunication can have very serious and negative consequences. In this webinar, Dr. Woodson explains why communication is the number one fundamental patient care skill.

Communication is 5% about the tools (or technology), 15% about the process, and 80% about the people. It is people’s attitudes, biases, motivations, and personal lives that play a role in influencing the communication process. Dr. Woodson will describe the basic elements of communication and create an understanding of where communication breakdowns occur. The session will also address how communication can be improved, and as a result, improve patient outcomes.
